Co-cacophony
2022
Co-cacophony depicts a collective flute intersected in such a way that can be activated by many people at the same time. With the idea of a shared air and focusing on the gesture of transforming an individual object into a collective one, Co-cacophony raises questions and implications about thinking and relating collectively.
The idea of cacophony comes as an invitation: there is no restriction in its use to make a specific sound, or music, nor the necessity of any specific or previous knowledge, within a free agency to activate it. Cacophony, thus, comes as a metaphor of dialogue, confrontation, social interrelating, politics of dialogue, non-verbal communication, coexistence, and shared intimacy. What happens when its active participation confronts the audiences into an intimate event, where specific positions around the piece and the space it involves, links, gestures, and implications are at play?
Co-cacophony not only invites to question and immerse into forms of collectivity, but actively plays a role in new ways to relate with each other, not from of the piece, but through the piece. Collective flutes, therefore, not only as a new non-instrument instrument, but as a bridge.
