Co-euphony

2023

“Lost Aesthetics, or screwing around without them knowing”

Comission for group show curated by Ricardo Diaque at NSFW Gallery, for Gôteborg International Biennale for Contemporary Art Extended.

As a second iteration of Co-cacohpny (2022), Co-Euphony continues with the exploration of flutes and its diverse forms of producing sound, as well as the gesture of turning individual objects, instruments, tools, and situations, into shared objects for a shared event. Through these processes, the work opens a common space for communication that, far from focusing on language limits, gives light to the possibilities of sounds, and in such case, music, as an alternative to inter-relate in a live-situation.

Co-Euphony is a series of pan-flutes connected in a way that allows several people to inter-play simoultaneously. Experimenting with accessibilty through the height and inclination of the flutes for different bodies to activate the work, the different sounds that can emerge, and the participation of the audiences, the work aims at creating a moment where one’s agency emerges in dialogue with others’ agency. The work, more than a instrument, becomes a bridge, where active agencies interact with each other, leaving the metaphores as satelites and perhaps, contingencies.
